“Tennis is a sport you hardly ever win at, which makes humbleness so important.It makes us able to draw conclusions and improve,” says Maja Chwalińska, the first tennis player in the history of French Open to get through qualifying and reach the final of this prestigious event. The entire country watched the June tournament with bated breath. The athlete returned to Poland two days after the final game. At the airport, she was greeted by a crowd of fans. “I was unaware of the scale of emotions my success evoked in Poland.I am very grateful for that,” says Maja interviewed by Joanna Łazarz. Fans fell in love with the 24-year-old tennis player not only for her thrilling performance on the court, but also for the journey she has been through. The athlete herself emphasizes that the path she had to walk is still her most valuable achievement. “I gave up many times, but I came back.I needed time to arrange a few things in my mind.Only then I could return to tennis,” says Maja, whose Instagram account has now half a million followers. The tennis player told us about her childhood in Dąbrowa Górnicza, her first tennis lessons, a crisis, depression, a hiatus and her comeback to tennis on her own terms.
